Stacked, hollow ceramic forms inspired by the ancient tradition of stacking stones. Stacking stones is a practice observed around the world and across time – whether as a form of wayfinding, meditation, devotion, or self-expression. It’s intuitive and relatable: the act of creating something out of the materials available and a way to interact with a found environment. Reflective of Vicky’s ceramic practice, creating them is a meditation and her creative outlet. These cairns call out to the people and places that her work connects to.

Each ‘stone’ is hand-thrown on the pottery wheel and then manipulated and assembled. They are organic and irregular in shape with experimental surface textures. Different techniques are applied, including under-glazes, glazes, and carving to create contrast and tension in the piece. Atop each stack is a vessel, inviting a variety of uses in the home or to stand alone as a decorative object.

12.5” wide x 17.5” high

Materials

Each piece is one of a kind and handmade by Vicky in her Toronto based studio. Ceramics are all natural stoneware with food safe glaze and decoration. There may be slight differences in colour, shape and size to pictured items.

Care Instructions

All pieces are food safe and dishwasher safe – hand washing is recommended for delicate items. Unglazed areas can become stained over time, so it is best to rinse after use. Baking soda and water work well on stubborn stains. Microwaving not recommended for darker pieces or crystallized glazes.
